Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about investing with us

*Membership is open in two ways: as part of our founding cohort — classmates from the 1983 set of FEGO — or as a family member (spouse, child, grandchild, or first cousin) of an existing member, sponsored and approved for admission

*Yes. Family members of existing members may apply, sponsored by that member, subject to Board approval

*Applicants are sponsored by an eligible classmate or family member, reviewed by the Board, and formally admitted on approval. If an application isn’t approved, the applicant may appeal to our Investment Subcommittee, and may reapply after six months

*Approval decisions are typically communicated within one week of a completed application

*Our Investment Subcommittee researches and screens opportunities; our Board of Executive Directors makes the final decision. Higher-risk instruments, like private placements, require the unanimous agreement of all Executive Directors and a written justification before proceeding

*Real estate, treasury bills, listed securities, and other carefully selected instruments

*Members receive quarterly performance reports and a full account at our Annual Members’ Meeting. Formal governance records are also shared with members as a matter of course

*No. Investment markets carry inherent risk, and no one can guarantee outcomes. What we commit to is the process: disciplined screening, disclosed conflicts of interest, and accountable decision-making at every stage

*Profits are only credited once genuinely realised — that is, once an investment is actually sold or matured, not merely while its paper value is rising. Figures are calculated each quarter and independently verified before being shared with members

*As with any investment activity, capital is at risk and value can go down as well as up. We treat higher-risk instruments, such as private placements, with additional caution and require unanimous leadership agreement before pursuing them. Full risk disclosures are provided directly to members during onboarding

*Yes. Withdrawal requires advance written notice — 30, 60, or 90 days depending on the amount — and is processed quarterly

*Withdrawals are processed on our quarterly dates (end of March, June, September, and December), with payment completed within 30 days of approval

*A modest early withdrawal adjustment applies to holdings under 24 months, and total withdrawals in any quarter are capped as a portion of the overall portfolio, to protect the stability of the fund for all members

*Our Executive Directors, Chairman, and oversight committees are elected directly by members, for fixed terms, on a one-member-one-vote basis

*Member funds are held in the Company’s own account — never in an individual leader’s personal account — and shares are held in trust specifically for members’ benefit. Decisions involving money are subject to independent review and dual approval

*Quarterly reports and our Annual Members’ Meeting give members a full view of performance and governance

*Online through our secure payment partner, or by direct bank transfer with confirmation

*Our Secretary/Legal Director is the first point of contact for any questions about membership or the community

*You can update your details directly through your member dashboard on our website, or by emailing our Secretary/Legal Director with the information you’d like changed

*Investment returns may be subject to applicable Nigerian tax, including at the Company level and, where relevant, to individual members. We recommend members consult their own tax advisor regarding their personal position
